MARIO MATERA

ABOUT

Mario Matera, a provocative and enigmatic Italian artist, was born in the heart of Andria amidst the fervor of Italy's 1968 revolution. Still rooted in his hometown, he continues to channel his creativity there. Embarking on his artistic odyssey at a mere 13 years old, he initiated his journey through painting, progressively amassing both national and international reverence. His work has reached prestigious exhibitions in Venice, Berlin, Moscow, and Bangalore.

By the age of 17, Matera had ventured into a myriad of artistic avenues, transitioning from a skilled illustrator to a cartoonist, and subsequently, to a graphic designer. Beyond personal artistic pursuits, he imparts his wisdom by teaching visual communication at an advertising graphics high school.

In parallel, Matera embraced the realm of cinema, directing the visuals of commercials, short films, and full-length movies. In 1990, he founded the MARIO MATERA GROUP, an artistic collective where he not only serves as the creative director but also as a photographer.

Having orchestrated the creative direction on fashion photoshoots for some years, Matera embarked on a personal metamorphosis, transitioning from orchestrating visuals to being a photographer.
