Liu Bolin

Performer, activist and protester, known internationally for his photographs of himself concealed in his landscapes, which earned him the nickname "the invisible man". Initially a sculptor, Liu obtained his Master of Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2001. He taught sculpture for four years and decided to come to Beijing for two additional years of study. His first photo is a scene in front of the ruins of his studio in 2006. Since his first solo exhibition in Beijing (1998), Liu Bolin's work has received international recognition. His photographs and sculptures have been presented at major festivals of contemporary photography such as the Les Rencontres d'Arles festival as well as in numerous galleries such as the Dashanzi Art Zone in Beijing (2007), the Bertin-Toublanc gallery in Paris (2007 ), the Eli Klein Fine Art gallery in New York (2008), the Boxart gallery in Verona (2008), as well as the Forma Foundation for Photography in Milan (2010).
